1. Windows Updates

Windows updates are created to fix security holes and vulnerabilities in Windows that can be exploited by hackers to take over your computer or use it to send spam or viruses.

Can’t updates?

Reasons:

-Are you connect to the internet?

-Does your firewall allow Window Updates?

-Have you scan your computer for malware?

-Sometime malware edit the registry and disabled Window Updates, try using Spybot to fix it.

2. Antivirus Updates

Your antivirus software is only useful if you update it regularly. If a virus was discovered yesterday, and you haven’t updated your antivirus product today, then you are likely to be infected by that particular virus.

3. Anti-Spyware Updates

Just like antivirus software, in order to remove malware it must have the latest database to detect and then can remove that malware. Unfortunately, many of these programs don't update themselves automatically. Update them weekly before scanning your system.

4. Firewall Updates

Most firewall programs will prompt you to download or update when that there is a newer version to download. New update fixes vulnerabilities and enhanced the firewall.

5. Other Updates

Software, hardware and device driver needs to update to solve issues from computer lockups, screen freezes, printing problems among other problems and security vulnerabilities.

P.S For hardware and device driver, I DO NOT recommend to update as new update may result in incompatible issues. Update only if you face issues with other devices.

A list of solutions to solve the software updates :

-Pc’s manufacture website usually has a list of software and hardware updates. (E.g. HP.com)

-FileHippo.com’s Update Checker:

It check your machine for installed software of the latest one has been install. If Update Checker finds a problem, it will provide the name of the program as well as a link to download the latest version of the outdated software. The program gets its updates based on the software available on the FileHippo.com's website.

-CleanSofts.org's Update Notifier:

Silimar to Update Checker. The Update Notifier is a small utility that scans your computer for installed software and displays a list of updates. Also you can see the latest updates for applications from your Watch List. [Download]

-Serunia’s Personal Software Inspector (PSI):

Secunia, a well known security company, has created an online checker for unpatch, outdated, and insecure versions of installed software. [Download]

1) Right-click on My Computer

2) Click on Manage

3) Click on the plus sign(+) next to Services and Applications in the left-hand column

4) Click on Services

5) Find the service called Windows Management Instrumentation, right-click on it, and choose Stop.

6) Open My Computer

7) Double-click on Drive C (or whatever drive Windows is installed on)

8) Double-click on the Windows folder

9) Double-click on System32

10) Double-click on WBEM

11) Right-click on the Repository folder and click Delete and remove it

12) Close the My Computer windows and return to the Windows services screen using steps 1 - 4 shown above

13) Find the service called Windows Management Instrumentation, right-click on it, and choose Start. Restarting this service will rebuild the repository folder information.

14) Restart your computer

Once the computer has restarted, open Windows Security Center or run Belarc Advisor. Only your currently installed antivirus and firewall programs should be listed.

I understand that MSN 2009 doesn't come with an uninstaller, so you have to type or copy and paste the following into the "run" commend.

If you do not know what's a run commend, click the start button and you should see "Run".

Click "run".

Once you see the small box, copy and paste the following that it will start the uninstaller of Windows Live Messenger 2009.

msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}

Just copy and paste it and the uninstaller will start.
