» What is Proxy Server?

[Last updated on 21/01/2009,Thu]

Proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients(us) seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server.

So why do we use Proxy Server?

1) Usually is to remove restiction and access to block sites like facebook in school or workplace.
2) Remove IP restiction like downloading files from Rapidshare.
3) To keep machines behind it anonymous (mainly for security)
4) To speed up access to resources (using caching). Web proxies are commonly used to cache web pages from a web server.

Note:

Please do not use proxy server to do illegal stuff. No matter what proxy you use, there's no such thing as 100% anonymous. You can still be track using the MAC address.
